Exercise 16.7: Authentication and Encryption systems

Question 7.
Visit the TRUSTe web site. Describe what services and solutions are offered.

I have visited http://www.truste.org and have found that TRUSTe provides the following programs and services:
  • Web Privacy Seal - provides a privacy statement that reflects businesses practices, helps to identify potential privacy threats and helps streamline legal compliance with federal and state requirements. (I don't think this relates to Australian laws though)
  • EU Safe Harbor Seal - helps a company certify with the EU Directive on Data Protection - a "Safe Harbor Framework" developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce in concert with the European Commission.

  • Email Privacy Seal - a web site seal that lets visitors know they can trust you with their email address.

  • Children's Privacy Seal - certifies that a business is compliant with the COPPA Rule (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) – so that parents know that their children's information is safe.

  • Trusted Download Program - helps increase confidence at the point of download, alerting consumers of the software’s “trusted” standing. Customers will feel more secure knowing that the site abides by industry best practices.

  • International Services - services to demonstrate a web sites privacy commitment to consumers all over the world.

  • Site Reputation Services - a set of services designed to protect consumers and companies against malware attacks.

  • Site Services for e-commerce - allows the building and verifying of the e-commerce privacy policy and seal.
